ISAAW Statement on Senator Harris’s Selection as the Democratic Vice Presidential Running Mate

We at ISAAW are very pleased at this historic pick. Senator Kamala Harris is the first Black woman, and the first South Asian American woman to be selected as a running mate as the Vice President of the United States of America. At ISAAW, we strongly support civic engagement by South Asian American women, an educated and powerful demographic underrepresented in the political sphere. To that end, Senator Harris's nomination for Vice President exemplifies the goals of ISAAW - that by providing a platform for South Asian American women to increase civic engagement and seek elected office, we add our diverse voices to, and invariably strengthen, democracy.
